I have been a licensed Architect here in Montana for over 45 years and have had the opportunity to work with many builders, some good and others not so good. Recently, I was asked to assist on a custom home that Stonegate Builders, LLC was building. That is when I met John Stalowy. You know the expression “talk the talk and walk the walk”, well John can do both.
His character is above reproach. He is always looking out for the owner making sure they get what they paid for and expected. Construction post Covid has been very hard for General contractors. Yet John has been able to keep together his group of qualified Subcontractors by producing a realistic schedule, timely procurement of materials timely payments to the subs.
The finished product speaks volumes about John’s quality of work. Something else that I realized after working with John for a few weeks was his eye for design! Too often General contractors just want to get the job done not caring about the finished product. John’s understanding of the relationship between three dimensional spaces, available materials and finishes is what make his project head and shoulders above the other contractors.

We have a beautiful new home and I owe allot of “Kudos” to John Stalowy of Stonegate Builders who made the process, in the worst possible times, feel like a “walk in the park “; let me explain. We have had several other homes built in the past with very nice results however, this time, we had the pandemic and the economic supply-chain “train wreck” to deal with. These issues created so many unusual obstacles and if it weren’t for John’s experience and building expertise along with his ability to listen, communicate and solve these problems in an honest and creative way; we might still be waiting to finish. He brought thoughtful ideas and suggestions to solve many of these problems without sacrificing the design intent. His hand-picked crew of subs delivered a beautiful, finished product. Now we have a very lovely home to enjoy our senior years in the town we love, Bigfork.
